The Dao that can be spoken
is not the eternal Dao.
The Name that can be named
is not the eternal Name.
The Nonbeing which cannot be named
is the origin of creation.
The Being which can be named
is the mother of all things.
Being absent of desire
we see the essence of the mystery.
Being full of desire
we see the boundaries of its manifestations.
These two come forth simultaneously
but they are given different names.
The different names point to the same reality.
O mystery of mysteries
the door to all wonders. 一
道可道，非恒道。名可名，非恒名。无名，万物之
始。有名，万物之母。故恒无欲，以观其妙。恒有
欲，以观其徼。两者同出，异名同谓。玄之又玄，
众妙之门。

杨鹏
1988年毕业于北京大学西语系，哈佛大学亚洲中心研究学者，北京掌上国学院创办人。杨鹏先生从事中国传统文化与犹太教、基督教对比研究，己出版《成为上帝》《东亚新文化的兴起》《老子详解——老子执政学研究》《上帝在中国源流考》《为公益而共和》《杨鹏解读道德经》等七本著作，发表文章四百多篇。
2016年6月，杨鹏先生在美国出版DAO DE JING （《道德经》），被哈佛大学中国哲学教授Michael Puett (迈克尔??普鸣)评价为神奇的成就（Wonderful achievement）。
