The Small Fortress is a collection of novellas written by children literature writer Xue Tao, which includes his eight representative works such as “The Small Fortress,” “The Departing Train” and “Noon in the Botanical Garden.” The heroine of “The Small Fortress,” is a tenacious girl named Shallo, who stubbornly and lonely protects the last “fortress” in Sun Town during its procession of urbanization. The author depicts Shallo’s growth under the care of his father after her parents’ divorce with delicate words. The whole story is with an air of light blue, but Shallo’s perseverance and kindness, as well as her protection and love to Nature, will move every reader deeply. Xue Tao’s inspiration comes from the land he lives. With elegant words and sincere feelings, he creates a small fortress for children themselves.

薛涛，中国作家协会会员，中国作协儿童文学委员会委员。主要作品有《小城池》《白银河》《九月的冰河》等。作品曾获陈伯吹儿童文学奖、冰心儿童文学新作奖、宋庆龄儿童文学奖、全国优秀儿童文学奖、国家文化部蒲公英奖、中国人口文化奖等多项文学奖。
Xue Tao is a member of the China Writers Association and the Children’s Literature Committee of the China Writers Association. His works include The Small Fortress, White Milky Way and Ice Water in September, etc. He has won the Prize of the China Writers Association for Excellent Children’s Literature, the Soong Ching-Ling Prize for Children’s Literature, the New Prize of the Bing Xin Prize for Children’s Literature, the Chen Bochui Prize for Children’s Literature, the Dandelion Prize of the Ministry of Culture and the Chinese Population and Culture Prize.
