本书主题方向：深入宣传贯彻党的十九大精神；2020年全面建成小康社会。2019年是中华人民共和国成立70周年，也是到2020年全面建成小康社会的决胜之年。本书反映自1840年鸦片战争直至新中国成立特别是自党的十八大以来，中国医疗卫生事业艰难曲折的发展振兴之路和在中国共产党领导下所取得的辉煌成就，写就中国人告别“东亚病夫”走向全民健康的伟大历程，而从“东亚病夫”到“健康中国”的历程已经成为中华民族实现伟大复兴很生动的缩影。近年来，随着党中央推进健康中国战略，卫生健康领域的中国智慧、中国方案和中国实践也成为我国积极参与优选治理、构建人类命运共同体的很有说服力的样本。由此，我们在2019-2020的特殊时间节点上策划推出大型对外出版项目《健康中国》，本项目集合国家卫生健康委员会很好成果，以中国人口宣传教育中心为依托，以系统总结并向全世界传播全国卫生健康发展成就和智慧经验为目标，构建和推广体现国家高度、体现中国气派，主题鲜明、特色突出、立项合理、可行性强的重点外宣出版项目，向2020年全面建成小康社会献上一份沉甸甸的礼物。
