适应对象：本教材以高等院校应用型人才培养为目标，也适合于广大物流从业者自学物流英语之用。
教材定位：本教材是一本入门型的物流基础英语书。
编写目的：通过学习本教材，使学生能在较短的时问（一学期）内掌握常用物流英语词汇及表达法约1200个左右，掌握一般的物流英语专业术语，并熟知基本的物流运作程序。
编写原则：“适用性”＋“可学性”
我们在选材过程中，特别注意收集那些能反映典型的、核心的、操作性强的内容，争取在有限的篇幅内能讨论数个相关的小标题，并逐个加以阐述。所有这些内容均和当前的物流实战运作紧密相连，以使学生能“零距离”接触物流运营的各个主要侧面。
“可学性”是和“适用性”紧密相连的另一个特色，每篇课文在大标题下另有数个小标题，使每课自然地突出重点；由于篇幅短小，每单元可在两学时内轻松学完，教师和学生均不会有疲劳的感觉。
